THINK GREEN!!

well.. u know... this planet is OURS and we must take care about it!!...
I invite you to try new ways of conservationism.. if u want to learn more about this check this web http://www.thinkgreen.com/
The following is a list of suggestions for living green, and doing your part to help save our planet and our children's future:
- Buy your own cotton or canvas reusable tote bags for groceries. One source is trade shows, where you can usually get them for free. Reusablebags.com was recommended to me, but they seem to be WAY overpriced. If you HAVE to use plastic, return the bags to your local store for recycling. Another great place to get the fabric bags is Amazon.com - $2.99 last time I checked!
- Buy cloth coffee filters! Cheap, reusable, machine-washable! These produce better tasting coffee because the fabric absorbs the acid!
- Whenever possible, walk, bike or carpool. Check out erideshare.com for coordination help. If you can afford it, buy a hybrid or zero emissions vehicle.
- As you buy groceries, purchase what you need from local growers, farmers' markets and food co-ops. Check out climatebiz.com for more ideas.
- Buy organic products and products packaged with recycled paper. Also avoid buying things with a lot of excess packaging.
- Purchase energy-efficient lighting and appliances. Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) are so energy-efficient that they actually more than pay for themselves in reduced energy consumption (lower power bill) and less frequent replacement!
- LED bulbs use only 0.1% of the power of regular incandescent bulbs, but LED bulbs are still hard to find and very expensive. Eventually, LED bulbs will replace CFLs because they last far longer and use so little power. Watch your local stores for them in the near future!
- Reduce landfill usage and save money at the same time by participating in your local FREECYCLE group. In these groups, unwanted but still useable items are placed up for grabs, at no cost, and anyone in need of something specific can request it.
- Have your bank switch you to electronic statements to cut back on unnecessary paper usage.
- Have your creditors and utility and service providers switch your accounts to e-bills, which arrive in your e-mail instead of through regular mail.
- Have your vehicle tuned-up for maximum gas mileage and to prevent leaks.
- Recycle everything you can. Aluminum is actually quite valuable, now - so sell it to your local scrap yard.
- Use eco-friendly cleaning products like Simple Green.
- Live organically - put up a bat-house near your yard and they will eat the bugs at night, for example.
- Use your yard as a habitat - plant flowers that provide seed for birds, and set up a small butterfly house and a hummingbird feeder. Set up a squirrel feeder.
- Turn off unused lights. It's actually a myth that this burns them out faster. If you are leaving a room for more than a few seconds, then it pays to turn them off.
- Read a book instead of watching TV.
- Plant a tree.
- Plant shade-providing plants around your house to reduce the need for air-conditioning. Also, use fans instead of AC whenever possible.
- Turn off unused computers and appliances. The wear and tear from doing this is minimal - you'll probably upgrade to a newer computer LONG before your old one wears out. Recycle old computers by FREECYCLING them or by donating them to a local school or youth club.
- Purchase biodegradable garbage bags.
- Buy crank-powered flashlights - they are down to $7-$10, and they'll pay for themselves because they never need batteries or bulbs. They are brighter than a regular flashlight, too! I got mine at Kash-n-Karry (Now Sweetbay and Hannaford's).
- Dispose of batteries properly. Your town hall or local Radio Shack should have a bin for them.
- Buy dolphin-safe tuna.
- Eat healthy and lose weight - this will save you money and improve your car's gas mileage, not to mention adding years to your life.
- Avoid artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and food chemicals. Keep in mind that our FDA is governed through a political machine which often is forced to compromise - but you don't have to. Let your buying dollars act as an incentive for companies to clean up their acts.
- If you buy canned beverages, make sure you cut open EVERY hole in the plastic carrier, to prevent animals from getting tangled in them and strangling to death.
- Drive boats slowly in areas with large marine life like dolphins and manatees. You can also get a protective wire cage to place around your boat's engine blades.
- Recycle everything you can!
- If you own your home, you can invest in solar heating.
- Use solar-powered yard lights.
- Buy a metal detector. It's a fun hobby, and there's a code of conduct that says you must properly dispose of anything you dig up that you don't want. Believe it or not, it's because of this that beaches aren't littered with metal tabs and debris.
- Dispose of cigarette butts in the garbage - birds try to eat the butts and they can swell up in their intestines, causing blockages and killing the bird slowly and painfully.
- Better yet, quit smoking altogether!
- Don't litter!
- Set up a composting pile. It will provide you with rich gardening soil and help reduce land-fill clutter all at once!
